Lost and Found by Molly

Hey St. Mary's students. As some of you know, I am in charge of lost and found on every last Friday of the month. Making sure you get all of your stuff back is my goal but it has been pretty difficult so far this year. Just this last month, ten sweatshirts went to the used uniform closet. You may think that that is unfair, but I didn’t know whose sweatshirts they were.

How can you prevent this from happening? It’s simple. LABEL EVERYTHING!!!! It makes it easier for you and me and almost guarantees you won’t lose your uniforms. So, what are you going to do when you read this? Make a clear, legible label onto your sweatshirts, lunch boxes, skirts, maybe even your pants! Whatever you wouldn’t want to lose, label.

Thanks! GO COUGARS!

Sports Prayer by Charlie

Hey Cougars!
It’s Charlie Laurencio, your Athletics
Commissioner.
St. Mary’s has an excellent sports program with
amazing teams. Everyone who is on a team, pat
yourself on the back. You’re doing a bang-up job.
Let us remember that we must be kind and caring.
Keep this prayer in mind and pray it in your head
before each game, if you would like.

Dear God
Please bless today's game, our opponent, our team, and all
watching our play.
Thank you for the opportunity to compete and bring out the best
in each other.
May we play hard and fair.
Please keep everyone safe from injury and harm.
We pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit. Amen

Have a great sports season cougars! Play fair and
play hard!

All About Our School by Caroline (Adapted from Edline)

St. Mary’s School has a healthy learning environment, a great religious
community, and an irreplaceable friendship between students, classmates,
and faculty.

History:

• St. Mary’s School opened on September 13, 1954.

• By the 1960’s, enrollment had increased to 350 students in first through eighth grades

• In the 1970’s, St. Mary’s was one of the first schools in the Diocese of San Jose to utilize educational television. The Country Fair was established as an annual event.

• In the early 1990’s, enrollment was at capacity with a waiting list in most
grades. The finance committee developed a five-year budget plan.

In general, St. Mary’s boasts of a
parish school which has a proud tradition of Christian community, Gospel
service, academic excellence, and family centered education.

Daily Deed Challenge by Helena

Have you ever had one of those days?  You know, when you had to put on a dirty uniform because your mom didn’t get the laundry done or you totally forgot about that Science homework when your class is about to begin?  All of a sudden, that kid you always see in the hall smiles at you and says, ‘Hi!’ as she/he walks by and you don’t feel so bad anymore.  It’s really easy to smile at someone and say ‘Hi’, and you just might make their bad day much better!  I challenge you to do something kind each day of the week.

MONDAY – MIX IT UP MONDAY:  Sit next to someone different at lunch.

TUESDAY – TERRIFIC SMILE CHALLENGE TUESDAY: Smile at someone, just because.

WEDNESDAY – WAIT FOR IT WEDNSDAY: Be patient in a line and use good manners. Also, stick to a task you are working on no matter how hard it might be, until it's finished!!

THURSDAY – THANK YOU THURSDAY: Say thank you to someone who was nice to you today. (Teachers, students, parents, hot lunch moms, etc.)

FRIDAY - FRIDAY FAVORS: Do a favor for a friend, teacher or parent.

Good Grade Habits by Francesca

Hi there, St. Mary's!

Make sure to keep those grades up as the end of the quarter is coming up. One way to keep those grades up to have good study habits/skills such as:
·      Making flashcards for vocabulary
·      Highlight important/key ideas
·      Note something that you don’t quite know or that you have troubles with

Find a creative way that can make studying fun for you so you can do well on tests and in school all around!

Are YOU a Great St. Mary's Student? by Clare

Hey Cougars! Catholic Schools Week is a ways away, starting on January 29th and ending with Grandparents/VIP Day on February 3rd. But just because it is in a while doesn’t mean we can’t practice for it! It’s a good idea to be on your best behavior throughout the school day, as you will have to show adults how good and focused the St. Mary’s students are. Not only that, being a good student can also make your teacher’s life much easier! So we should all work hard to be respectful to our classmates, teachers, and the faculty so when parents start to tour our school, we know what to do!

Readers' Reward

Hey St. Mary's students and teachers,

Welcome to our new blog page!

We are going to begin a contest immediately. Teachers, when your class has read this blog, please email the answers to these trivia questions to Mr. Clauss:

1.  What is the date of Grandparents'/VIP Day this year?
2.  What is the Daily Deed Challenge for Thursdays?
3.  Who is credited with the saying, "A man who is the master of patience is the master of everything else."
The first teacher to email Mr. Clauss with the right answers wins!  This goes for ONE class in Elementary and ONE class in Junior High. Good Luck!!

Thanks,
The Student Council
